Inaugurato nel 2021, il Teatro Comunale Francesco Miggiano è intitolato alla memoria del fondatore della locale compagnia teatrale "La Fortuna", tuttora operativa.

Questa struttura moderna su più livelli, con platea e galleria, dispone di circa 90 posti a sedere ed è una vera "bomboniera", ricavata all’interno dell’antico complesso architettonico del Morticello o Chiesa della Buona Morte.

I lavori di restauro e recupero, durati tre anni, hanno riportato alla luce affreschi meravigliosi, tra cui spicca un prezioso tesoro emerso sulla cupola: una rappresentazione del Giudizio Universale. Al centro campeggia l’Altissimo con un’aureola triangolare (simbolo della Trinità), la mano destra che tiene un globo, e lo scettro come simbolo del potere divino. La figura riprende l’iconografia di Dio Padre, con la mano benedicente e la posizione latina delle dita: tre aperte e unite (Trinità), due chiuse verso il basso.

Verde e azzurro sono i colori predominanti, tipici della rappresentazione iconografica del Signore. In primo piano anche la Vergine Maria, in abito azzurro, che sorregge il Bambinello. Attorno, un vortice di nubi, da cui emergono anime nude: alcune sprofondano nelle fiamme della dannazione, altre sono sostenute da angeli redentori. I colori cupi e colori vividi distinguono visivamente la sorte delle anime.

Curiosità La Chiesa del Morticello fu gravemente danneggiata dai terremoti del 1857 e 1980, diventando inagibile.

Sul nome "Morticello" esistono varie ipotesi:

• luogo di sepoltura dei morti fino all’Ottocento;
  
  
• luogo delle ultime cure e sepolture dei bambini malati;

Inaugurated in 2021, the Francesco Miggiano Municipal Theater is named in memory of the founder of the local theater company "La Fortuna", which is still active today.

This modern venue, with multiple levels, stalls and a gallery, offers about 90 seats and is a true "jewel", carved out from the old Morticello complex or Church of the Good Death.

The restoration works, which lasted three years, uncovered splendid frescoes. The most outstanding is a depiction of the Last Judgment on the dome. At the center stands God the Father with a triangular halo (symbol of the Trinity), a globe in his right hand, and a scepter symbolizing divine authority. His hand blesses the sky in the traditional Latin gesture: three fingers up (Trinity), two down.

Green and blue dominate the fresco, following the iconographic tradition of the Lord. Also in the foreground is the Virgin Mary, in a light blue gown, holding Baby Jesus. Around them, a whirlwind of clouds and nude souls await judgment — some fall into the flames of damnation, others are lifted by redeeming angels. The contrast of dark and vivid colors symbolizes the souls’ fates.

The Church of Morticello was severely damaged by the 1857 and 1980 earthquakes, rendering it unusable.

There are several theories about the name "Morticello":

• it was a burial site until the early 19th century;
  
  
• it served as a place for last rites and burials of ill children;
  
  
• it was where the Confraternity of the Sick accompanied the dying.

Este espacio moderno, con varios niveles, platea y galería, ofrece unos 90 asientos y es una verdadera "joya", instalada dentro del antiguo complejo del Morticello o Iglesia de la Buena Muerte.

Las obras de restauración, que duraron tres años, sacaron a la luz frescos extraordinarios. Entre ellos destaca una representación del Juicio Final en la cúpula. En el centro está representado Dios Padre, con una aureola triangular (símbolo de la Trinidad), un globo en la mano derecha y un cetro que representa el poder divino. Su gesto bendice el cielo con posición de dedos latina: tres arriba (Trinidad), dos abajo.

Los colores predominantes son el verde y el azul, en línea con la iconografía tradicional. En primer plano, la Virgen María sostiene al Niño Jesús con un vestido azul claro. Alrededor, un torbellino de nubes y almas desnudas esperan el juicio: unas caen entre las llamas de la condena, otras son elevadas por ángeles redentores. El contraste entre colores oscuros y vivos representa el destino de las almas.

La Iglesia del Morticello fue gravemente dañada por los terremotos de 1857 y 1980 y quedó inhabilitada.

Die dreijährigen Restaurierungsarbeiten förderten beeindruckende Fresken zutage. Besonders hervorzuheben ist die Darstellung des Jüngsten Gerichts in der Kuppel. Im Zentrum steht Gottvater mit dreieckigem Heiligenschein (Symbol der Dreifaltigkeit), einem Globus in der rechten Hand und einem Zepter als Zeichen göttlicher Macht. Die segnende Geste folgt der lateinischen Fingerstellung: drei Finger nach oben (Dreifaltigkeit), zwei nach unten.

Grün und Blau dominieren das Bild – typische Farben für die Darstellung des Herrn. Im Vordergrund ist die Jungfrau Maria, die das Jesuskind in einem blauen Kleid hält. Umgeben sind sie von einem Wirbel aus Wolken und nackten Seelen: Einige sinken in die Flammen der Verdammnis, andere werden von erlösenden Engeln getragen. Der Kontrast zwischen dunklen und hellen Farben symbolisiert das Urteil.

Wissenswertes Die Kirche Morticello wurde durch die Erdbeben von 1857 und 1980 schwer beschädigt und war anschließend unbenutzbar.
