Immersa nella storia di Viggiano, la Chiesa di San Benedetto, risalente al 1561, si trova nella suggestiva strada alto-medievale che prende il suo nome, ai piedi del maestoso Castello e vicino alla storica zona delle Forge.

La facciata della chiesa, dalle linee semplici ma eleganti, è caratterizzata da un portale in legno, un timpano triangolare ed una coppia di finestre circolari e simmetriche che donano armonia all’insieme. Alle spalle dell’edificio, svetta uno splendido campanile in pietra di forma parallelepipeda, collocato sul lato ovest e caratterizzato da una cella campanaria con quattro monofore.

All’interno, la chiesa presenta un’unica navata con un impianto strutturale a pianta rettangolare che segue un andamento longitudinale. La zona presbiteriale è divisa dal resto dell’aula da un elegante arco a tutto sesto, e accoglie una mensa in marmo, dietro la quale si trovano tre nicchie contenenti le statue di San Benedetto (attualmente in restauro), e dei santi Pietro e Paolo ai lati. Le arcate cieche simmetriche sulle pareti laterali aggiungono carattere all’ambiente, mentre la luce naturale penetra attraverso le finestre rettangolari poste sulla parete destra, creando un'atmosfera accogliente e serena.

Un piccolo piazzale pavimentato si trova proprio davanti all'ingresso della chiesa, offrendo ai visitatori un angolo tranquillo dove fermarsi ad osservare l’architettura e a respirare l'atmosfera unica di questa chiesa che rappresenta un vero e proprio tuffo nel passato.

• La Chiesa di San Benedetto faceva parte di un monastero benedettino, come suggerisce la maestosità dell'edificio.
• I materiali utilizzati per l'edificazione sono tipici del luogo, con una muratura in pietrame locale intonacata a rustico all'esterno e accuratamente rifinita all'interno. Il tetto è rivestito con tegole a coppi in cotto, un dettaglio che richiama la tradizione costruttiva lucana.

 

Steeped in the history of Viggiano, the Church of San Benedetto, dating back to 1561, is located along the evocative early medieval street that bears its name, at the foot of the majestic Castle and near the historic Forge district.

The church's façade, simple yet elegant, features a wooden portal, a triangular pediment, and a pair of circular, symmetrical windows that add a sense of harmony. Behind the building rises a splendid parallelepiped-shaped stone bell tower, located on the west side and featuring a bell cell with four single-lancet windows.

Inside, the church consists of a single nave with a rectangular floor plan following a longitudinal layout. The presbytery area is separated from the nave by a graceful round arch and houses a marble altar, behind which are three niches containing the statues of Saint Benedict (currently under restoration), and Saints Peter and Paul on either side. The blind symmetrical arches on the side walls add depth, while natural light enters through rectangular windows on the right wall, creating a welcoming and serene atmosphere.

A small paved courtyard stands right in front of the entrance, offering visitors a peaceful spot to admire the architecture and breathe in the unique atmosphere of this church, which represents a true journey into the past.

Sumergida en la historia de Viggiano, la Iglesia de San Benedetto, que data de 1561, se encuentra en la evocadora calle alto-medieval que lleva su nombre, a los pies del majestuoso castillo y cerca de la histórica zona de las Fraguas.

La fachada de la iglesia, de líneas simples pero elegantes, presenta un portal de madera, un frontón triangular y un par de ventanas circulares simétricas que aportan armonía al conjunto. Detrás del edificio se alza un espléndido campanario de piedra de forma paralelepípeda, ubicado en el lado oeste y caracterizado por una celda campanaria con cuatro monóforas.

En el interior, la iglesia presenta una sola nave con planta rectangular dispuesta en sentido longitudinal. La zona del presbiterio está separada del aula por un elegante arco de medio punto, y alberga un altar de mármol, detrás del cual se encuentran tres nichos con las estatuas de San Benedetto (actualmente en restauración), y de los santos Pedro y Pablo a los lados. Los arcos ciegos simétricos en las paredes laterales aportan carácter, mientras que la luz natural entra por las ventanas rectangulares del lado derecho, creando una atmósfera acogedora y serena.

Frente a la entrada de la iglesia se encuentra una pequeña plaza pavimentada, que ofrece a los visitantes un rincón tranquilo donde admirar la arquitectura y respirar la atmósfera única de esta iglesia que representa un verdadero viaje al pasado.

La Iglesia de San Benedetto formaba parte de un monasterio benedictino, como lo sugiere la majestuosidad del edificio.

Los materiales utilizados en su construcción son típicos de la zona, con mampostería de piedra local enlucida de forma rústica en el exterior y cuidadosamente acabada en el interior. El techo está cubierto con tejas curvas de terracota, un detalle que recuerda la tradición constructiva de Lucania.



 

Eingebettet in die Geschichte von Viggiano befindet sich die Kirche San Benedetto, die aus dem Jahr 1561 stammt, in der malerischen frühmittelalterlichen Straße, die ihren Namen trägt, am Fuße der majestätischen Burg und nahe dem historischen Schmiedeviertel.

Die Fassade der Kirche, schlicht aber elegant, zeichnet sich aus durch ein hölzernes Portal, ein dreieckiges Giebelfeld und ein Paar symmetrischer runder Fenster, die dem Bau Harmonie verleihen. Hinter dem Gebäude erhebt sich ein prächtiger, quaderförmiger Glockenturm aus Stein, der sich an der Westseite befindet und eine Glockenzelle mit vier Einzelfenstern besitzt.

Innen besteht die Kirche aus einem einzigen Kirchenschiff mit rechteckigem Grundriss in Längsrichtung. Der Chorraum ist durch einen eleganten Rundbogen vom Hauptschiff getrennt und beherbergt einen Marmortisch, hinter dem sich drei Nischen mit den Statuen von Benedikt (derzeit in Restaurierung) sowie von Petrus und Paulus an den Seiten befinden. Die symmetrischen Blendbögen an den Seitenwänden geben dem Raum Struktur, während durch rechteckige Fenster auf der rechten Wandseite Tageslicht einfällt, das eine warme und friedliche Atmosphäre schafft.

Ein kleiner gepflasterter Vorplatz vor dem Eingang bietet Besuchern einen ruhigen Ort zum Verweilen, um die Architektur zu bewundern und die einzigartige Atmosphäre dieser Kirche zu genießen, die eine wahre Zeitreise darstellt.

• Die verwendeten Materialien stammen aus der Region, mit rau verputztem örtlichem Bruchsteinmauerwerk außen und sorgfältig gestaltetem Innenraum. Das Dach ist mit gebrannten Tonziegeln gedeckt, ein Merkmal, das die traditionelle Bauweise der Region Lucania widerspiegelt.

内部空间 为 单一中殿，采用 长方形平面布局。圣坛区域通过一个优雅的半圆拱门与主厅分隔开，设有 一张大理石祭坛桌，后方是 三座神龛，内有 正在修复的圣本笃雕像，左右分别为 圣彼得与圣保罗雕像。墙面上的对称盲拱 增添空间结构感，右侧墙壁上的长方形窗户 引入自然光线，营造出 温馨宁静的氛围。

教堂前方设有一片铺设地砖的小广场，为游客提供一个 静谧角落观赏建筑之美，并 沉浸于教堂独有的历史氛围中，仿佛 穿越时光回到过去。

• 教堂所用建材皆取自本地，外墙为 粗糙石砌并以抹灰处理，而 内部则精细打磨。屋顶覆盖的是传统陶制曲瓦，完美展现了 卢卡尼亚地区的传统建筑风格。
